Achieve Your Ideal Body Contours With Liposuction in Brampton, Ontario

You work out, eat right and stay active, but sometimes it doesn’t matter what you do — stubborn pockets of fat just won’t dissipate. You feel healthier, but when you look in the mirror, you notice unwanted bulges that interfere with your fitness goals. If diet and exercise aren’t giving you the results you want, liposuction can remove those irritating pockets of fat and help you achieve the fit, toned body you’ve always wanted.

At Brampton Plastic Surgery, we provide liposuction for patients who have tried everything to shed unwanted pounds but are foiled by genetics, hormones and other factors out of their control. Performed by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Catherine Haywood, liposuction can eliminate stubborn fat and leave you with healthy, natural curves that enhance your figure. If you’re considering liposuction, Dr. Haywood’s skill and expertise can help you take control of your fitness with permanent results and minimal downtime.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical technique that sculpts and reshapes the body to help patients achieve a slimmer, healthier appearance. It is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a small, vacuum-suction tube called a cannula to target common problem areas with precision and remove localized deposits of unwanted fat. As a highly versatile treatment, liposuction can be tailored to your distinct needs and fitness goals no matter where you’re struggling to lose unwanted pounds, providing you with personalized results that are all your own.

Commonly treated areas include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Abdomen
  • Buttocks
  • Hips and thighs
  • Waist
  • Back
  • Love handles
  • Chin and neck
  • Upper arms
  • Breasts

We’ve also treated areas such as the knees, calves and ankles. Basically, liposuction can be used almost anywhere there's an unwanted accumulation of fat. And throughout the years, techniques have evolved to give patients better results in more locations, so Dr. Haywood can devise a treatment plan for sculpting the body you want and ensure that your new curves are proportional, flattering and completely natural looking

Is Liposuction Right for Me?

Liposuction is ideal for most patients struggling to ditch unwanted fat, but it isn’t a substitute for healthy weight loss. Rather, liposuction is a tool to help those who are at or near their goal weight achieve slimmer contours. It can’t treat obesity or remove a significant amount of fat at once but is effective for reshaping the body when diet and exercise aren't enough.

If you’re thinking about liposuction, this procedure is ideal for those who:

  • Have their goal weight within sight
  • Struggle with diet or exercise-resistant body fat
  • Want to sculpt or reshape specific problem areas
  • Have good skin tone and elasticity
  • Understand that liposuction is not an obesity treatment
  • Can maintain their results with a healthy lifestyle

Candidates should also be in good health and preferably non-smokers, or willing to quit in the weeks leading up to surgery. Dr. Haywood can determine if liposuction is right for you during an in-person consultation, where she’ll examine your problem areas and listen to your goals, needs and expectations. If you’re a good candidate for liposuction and want to pursue treatment, she’ll develop your personalized surgical plan and provide you with any pre-operative instructions to help you prepare for your upcoming procedure.

What to Expect During Liposuction

Liposuction is generally performed under general anesthesia to ensure your comfort, but this may vary depending on your needs and desired outcome. These factors will also determine the length of your surgery, but the operation typically lasts between one and three hours. Dr. Haywood will explain the details of your procedure during your consultation so you'll know what to expect when you arrive for surgery.

Unwanted fat is removed with a cannula, a tube-like tool inserted beneath the skin through small, strategically placed incisions. Dr. Haywood will use the cannula to target and dislodge stubborn fat cells, which are then suctioned out from the body. During your procedure, Dr. Haywood will carefully guide the cannula to sculpt your desired proportions, utilizing her skills and expertise to ensure pleasing results that complement and enhance your natural figure. Once a sufficient amount of fat has been removed, the incisions will be closed, and you may be fitted with compression garments or bandages to minimize any swelling.

What is the Recovery Like After Liposuction?

After your surgery, you can expect some bruising, swelling and soreness in treated areas. Many patients find that wearing compression garments during this time can significantly decrease these side effects and help the body recover more quickly.

Generally speaking, liposuction recovery is relatively brief and manageable, but you may experience some discomfort in the days following your procedure. This should subside as your body begins to heal, and most patients feel ready to return to their basic normal activities after seven to 10 days. Everyone is unique, however, and you may respond to surgery differently or heal at your own pace. Listen to your body during this time and don't try to overdo it or resume your daily routine if you’re not feeling up to it.

To ensure a smooth recovery, Dr. Haywood will send you home with detailed postoperative and aftercare instructions, so you'll know what to expect as your body heals. She can also answer any questions or concerns you may have in the interim. If something comes up and Dr. Haywood isn’t available, all surgeries at Brampton Plastic Surgery include access to home care services to ensure that your needs are met throughout the entire recovery process.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect?

You might notice an improvement in your body contours right away, but more dramatic results will appear as swelling decreases. It can take time for your body to settle into its new shape, so more obvious changes to your physique will continue to develop in the months following your procedure. As for scarring, it should be minimal since incisions are small and placed in easily concealed areas whenever possible.

Many patients wonder if their liposuction results are permanent, and the answer is yes — as long as you maintain an active, healthy lifestyle. Once fat cells are removed, they’re gone for good, but weight gain may impact the outcome of your procedure. You can still expect to see improved contours, however, since fat will accumulate less in treated areas. Diet and exercise can prolong and enhance your results, so patients are encouraged to remain fit and active after receiving liposuction.

Can Liposuction Be Combined With Other Procedures?

Liposuction is an excellent option by itself for sculpting slimmer body contours, but it can’t treat loose, stretched or sagging skin. If you have these or other concerns you’d like to address, you can combine liposuction with various procedures to achieve your goals and ensure balanced, proportional and natural-looking results.

If you’ve recently given birth or lost weight and are bothered by excess skin and fat around the stomach, liposuction can be combined with a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) to address both of these concerns at the same time. This is a typical approach for mommy makeover procedures, which are designed to help women regain their pre-baby bodies.

Liposuction can also be combined with an arm lift (brachioplasty) or thigh lift to give these areas a more sculpted, toned appearance. Many patients who are undergoing a breast lift, breast reduction or breast augmentation may also include liposuction as part of their surgical plan for truly transformative results.

During your consultation, Dr. Haywood can help you explore your options and recommend a combination of procedures for reaching your aesthetic goals. If you only want to eliminate unwanted body fat, liposuction alone may suffice, but additional concerns may require a specialized surgical approach tailored to your needs

How Much Does Liposuction Cost?

Liposuction is an accommodating procedure that can be performed almost anywhere on the body, so your surgical costs will vary depending on the size, number and location of your treatment. Larger or more extensive areas will take longer to complete and cost more, while smaller areas such as the chin can be performed relatively quickly and will cost less. To help you plan for your surgery, we’ve included some cost estimates below, but Dr. Haywood can provide a more accurate quote that reflects your surgical plan after your consultation

If you’re undergoing liposuction alongside a tummy tuck, breast reduction, arm lift or other cosmetic surgery, the overall cost will be higher, but you can save on anesthesia and hospital fees. You’ll also have the advantage of a single operation and recovery time. During your consultation, Dr. Haywood can discuss the benefits of combining procedures and recommend the best approach for your situation.
