Refresh Your Appearance With An Eye Lift At Brampton Plastic Surgery.
Looking into someone’s eyes can tell you a lot about them. Not only are the eyes a window into the soul, but they provide a glimpse into our health and wellness — if we’re stressed, whether we’re getting enough sleep and even how we’re feeling. Unfortunately, if you have droopy lids or puffiness under your eyes, you may seem older and more tired than you really are. Even with healthy habits, these concerns can add years to your appearance or impair your vision. The good news is you can achieve a healthier, more alert look with an eye lift at Brampton Plastic Surgery.
An eye lift, otherwise known as blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that can improve the appearance of the eyes. Many people inherit traits such as “bags” or puffiness under the eyes that make them look tired, while others deal with sagging or drooping eyelids that can interfere with their vision. An eye lift addresses these concerns by removing excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids, brightening and rejuvenating the whole face. Depending on your needs, an eye lift can be performed on the lower lids, upper lids or both to help you achieve your desired outcome, and most patients are surprised at the dramatic transformation this procedure can make in their appearance.
Your eye lift results will depend on your unique facial anatomy, the concerns being addressed and the specific techniques used to accomplish your goals. But overall, you can expect a more refreshed, alert and youthful appearance. If drooping eyelids obstructed your line of sight, you can also expect improved vision after your surgery. Scarring is typically minimal following an eye lift, since incisions are strategically placed on the inside or along the natural crease of the eyelids — once they healed, they will blend in well with the surrounding skin. As swelling and bruising subside, you should feel ready to show off your new look within 10 to 14 days.
For most patients, the results of their eyelid surgery are permanent, especially with healthy habits and a good skin care routine. Keeping your eyes protected from the sun can also help extend the longevity of your new look. At Brampton Plastic Surgery, we offer a variety of advanced skin care products that can further enhance your results and improve the appearance of any lines, wrinkles or dark circles that remain underneath the eyes.
Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure that's performed with local anesthesia and sedation or general anesthesia, depending on your individual goals and the amount of correction that’s needed. Either way, you’ll be comfortable throughout the entire procedure and able to return home the same day.
The surgery itself will involve either an internal or external incision in the upper or lower eyelids. For bottom lid corrections, the external incision is usually hidden below your lower lashes and used to remove excess skin and fat. In the upper eyelids, the external incision is made in the natural fold or crease of the eyelid and follows your natural contours, allowing it to remain well camouflaged after it has healed.
If an internal incision is used to access the skin and underlying tissues of the lower eyelid, an external incision is not required. This approach is called a transconjunctival lower blepharoplasty, and while it may be a good approach for restoring a more rested appearance in younger patients, it cannot be used to remove excess skin.
Dr. Haywood will discuss these different approaches in more detail during the consultation process and decide which is best for you, based on your aesthetic needs and goals. Your age and the extent of fatty deposits beneath your eye will also determine which technique is used, as each can provide different benefits for varied concerns.
After your surgery, you should expect some mild swelling that persists for several weeks. In some cases, swelling may resolve in just seven days, but it typically takes longer to go down. Bruising is also normal and should disappear in seven to 10 days, but you may use makeup within the first week to hide any discoloration. Postoperative pain or discomfort is usually minimal and can be managed with oral medications.
During the recovery process, you may also experience burning, itchiness or excessive tearing and find that your eyes are more sensitive to light as they begin to heal. Dr. Haywood may recommend the use of eye drops to relieve these symptoms. You may also want to wear dark sunglasses for a couple of weeks to keep your eyes protected and prevent any damage from the wind or sun.
Your eyes may also feel dry and irritated after surgery. If this becomes severe, it could require treatment. There is also a chance of a temporary reduction in eyelid sensation or function in the days following your procedure. If impaired eyelid functioning doesn’t improve, it may be treated with additional surgery.
After an eye lift, most patients feel ready to return to work or resume other normal activities within 10 to 14 days, but this can vary depending on your body’s natural healing process. To ensure a smooth recovery, Dr. Haywood will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions and address any questions or concerns you may have. You'll have access to home care services, which are included to ensure that your needs are met if Dr. Haywood isn’t available.
The cost of your eye lift can vary depending on a number of factors, including the extent of your procedure, the type of anesthesia used and how much correction is needed in the upper and lower eyelids. Most patients pay out-of-pocket for an eye lift, but if you experience severe vision impairment due to drooping eyelids, your insurance may help cover the cost of your procedure. To help patients better plan for their surgery, we’ve provided cost estimates for eyelid surgery that can be used as a guideline. After your first consultation, Dr. Haywood will have a more personalized and accurate cost estimate for your specific procedure.
It’s important to note that if you’re considering a facelift or other cosmetic surgery in addition to blepharoplasty, combining procedures can help reduce the overall cost by saving money on anesthesia or hospital fees. Combing procedures may provide additional benefits as well, including less recovery and downtime compared to having each procedure performed separately. Dr. Haywood can discuss the pros and cons of combining your procedures during the consultation process to help you decide what’s best for you.
